Databending Inc. ("Databending", "we", "us") is a web design and software studio based in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website (www.databending.ca), why we collect it, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
The short version: we collect what you send us through our contact form, plus standard website analytics. We don't sell personal information, and we don't send marketing email without consent.
What we collect
Information you give us
When you use our contact form, request a quote, or email us at hello@databending.ca, we receive the details you provide — typically your name, email address, and whatever you include in your message (such as your company name or project details). Contact form submissions are delivered to us through our own mail service.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, we use analytics to understand how the site is used. We currently use two tools:
- PostHog — product analytics that records pages visited, referring site, browser and device type, approximate location (derived from IP address), and interactions on the site.
- Ahrefs Analytics — privacy-focused web analytics that reports aggregate traffic information (page views, referrers, country-level location) without building individual profiles.
This information helps us see which pages are useful and where the site needs work. We don't use it to identify you personally, and we don't combine it with your contact form submissions.
Cookies
PostHog sets cookies (or similar browser storage) to distinguish returning visitors and to measure how the site is used. Ahrefs Analytics operates without tracking cookies. We don't run advertising or remarketing pixels on this site.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time; the site will keep working. If you'd like us to remove analytics data associated with your visits, contact us and we'll do what we reasonably can to locate and delete it.
How we use personal information
- To respond to your inquiries and prepare quotes or proposals
- To deliver and manage services you've engaged us for
- To understand and improve how the website performs
- To send marketing or newsletter email only where you've opted in, consistent with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Every such email includes a working unsubscribe.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent personal information. We share it only with the service providers that make the website run — our hosting provider, our mail delivery service, and the analytics tools named above — and only to the extent needed for them to do their jobs. Some of these providers store data outside Canada (for example, in the United States or the European Union), where it is subject to the laws of those jurisdictions. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep contact and project correspondence for as long as needed to serve you and to meet our legal and accounting obligations. Analytics data is retained under the default retention settings of the tools above and reviewed periodically. If you ask us to delete your information, we will, unless we're legally required to keep it.
How we protect it
The site is served over HTTPS, access to our systems is limited to people who need it and protected with strong authentication, and we keep the software we run up to date. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information we hold.
Your rights
Under PIPEDA you may ask us what personal information we hold about you, request a correction, or withdraw consent to uses that rely on it (such as marketing email). Email hello@databending.ca and we'll respond within a reasonable time. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact theOffice of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Children
This site is intended for businesses and adults. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If our practices change — for example, if we add or remove an analytics tool — we'll update this page and revise the date at the top. Significant changes will be noted here rather than made silently.
